Siesta Key, FL

The Past And The Future

First developed in 1907 by the Siesta Land Company, this barrier island was only reachable by boat until the completion in 1917 of a bridge connecting it to the mainland. More development and a second bridge followed, and the whole island was officially named Siesta Key in 1952.

While the island is keen to retain the charming beachside esthetic tourists have come to know and love, the town is nevertheless looking toward the future and aiming to attract businesses and residents who connect with the local culture and community.

Working In Siesta Key

As would be expected of a tropical island with just 6,000 residents, Siesta Key itself is very much dominated by a tourist economy, with hotels, restaurants, vacation rental properties and boutique shops all playing prominent parts in the local economy. Its proximity to the city of Sarasota, however, allows for expanded opportunities.

Getting There – And Staying There

Boasting a public beach twice voted the best in the nation, Siesta Key also offers magnificent shopping, dining and nightlife. The island is easily reachable, just a short drive from downtown Sarasota, and thus close to both Interstate 75 and the Sarasota airport.

Business Opportunity In Siesta Key

Though small, Siesta Key has its own Chamber of Commerce located in Siesta Key Village, alongside an eclectic lineup of stores. The Chamber has crossover membership with the wider Sarasota County business community, allowing for new members to take advantage of partnerships both on and off the island.
